Fall for East Village
Get ready for Thanksgiving with a little trip down to East Village. On Saturday, October 12th, there will be a fall-themed harvest and artisan market set up at 618 Confluence Way SE. Market Collective will be on site with vendors, live music, a fall-themed photo booth and lots of delicious fall produce for sale. There will be several food trucks and Phil & Sebastian will be serving their amazing coffee, as well as a pumpkin patch with all proceeds from the sale of pumpkins going towards the rebuilding of the zoo. 

Wordfest
2013 Wordfest begins on October 14th and runs until the 20th. This year’s literary extravaganza has 65+ writers and literary figures from all over the world making appearances in Calgary and Banff. Margaret Atwood, Michael Winter and Chuck Palahniuk are just a few of the outstanding authors who will be making appearances over the next week. Jean Batiste
Jean Batiste and Stay Human are in town on Wednesday, October 16th. There will be pre-show entertainment with the concert starting at 7pm. Batiste is a master of jazz piano who was raised in the Big Easy and you can feel that jazz influence in his musical style. He’ll wow you with his wonderful storytelling and his use of the harmonaboard. Batiste has played with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Prince and Jimmy Buffet. This show is part of the EPCOR Centre’s Jazz Series. For tickets call: 403-294-9494. Tickets range from $35- $55.

Bleachers
Local Calgary band Bleachers is a recent phenomenon in this town. They’ve been compared to The Strokes with their sound described as being a little surf, rock and punk all rolled into one. Bleachers have been around for just a year, but have already taken on a cross-country tour and won X929’s Xposure contest. The band is in the middle of putting together their second EP (due in Spring of next year) and they are celebrating their one-year anniversary at the Ship and Anchor on October 16th with LBJ’s and Open Sails. Come out and celebrate with an awesome local band. 

Junkyard Paradise
You can always expect an interesting show when Theatre Junction is involved. From October 16th to 19th, you can check out Junkyard/Paradise, which is choreographed by Mélanie Demers of Montreal. The renowned choreographer is recognized for her unique and engaging dance performances that have toured all over Europe, Asia and Africa. Junkyard/Paradise explores the fate of our world, politics and social change. For tickets call 403-205-2922 or visit the website.

ArtWear
The Art Gallery of Calgary is hosting the fun and fabulous ARTwear 2013 on October 17th. The event will begin at 7pm with cocktails and prosecco followed by an exciting fashion show. This year, the theme is Italian Elegance. Many of Calgary’s top designers and clothing boutiques are participating, along with the Fashion Institute of Olds College. You will be inspired by great runway fashion for men and women this season. The Art Gallery of Calgary is located at 117 – 8th Avenue SW. Tickets are $150.
