Expo Latino
Running August 23 through 25, at Prince’s Island Park, Western Canada’s largest Latin arts and cultural festival celebrates music, dance, and foodie delights representing 22 Latin nations in Calgary. Head on down to the Park to check out the world-class artists and art market. There’s a BOMBAZO After Party on the 24th where you can dance all night and mingle with the performers, with performances by Grupo La Maquina from El Salvador. Check out expolatino.ca for details.

Calgary Opera – Picnic in the Village
On Sunday, August 25, from noon until 2pm at RiverWalk Plaza, East Village, there will be picnic-ing and opera. Who doesn’t wouldn’t enjoy a picnic lunch created by Sidewalk Citizen Bakery and River Cafe along the river while entertained by roving recitals? Stay for a matinee performance of The Pirates of Penzance from Calgary Opera. They’ve got a 900-seat tent set up where you can experience the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta like you’ve never seen it before. Order your $30 picnic lunch in advance through Calgary Opera. Hotel Arts Concert Series – Floodraiser Benefit
On August 25, from 1pm to 5pm, the Floodraiser Benefit is happening at the Hotel Arts (119 12 Avenue Southwest). Tickets are $25 and include admission to the concert series and a complimentary drink handcrafted by the Raw Bartenders. Amy Thiessen is hosting the concert series, which includes performances by Scotty Hills, Curtis Glas and Locomotive Ghost. Proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction are for the Calgary Foundation’s flood relief efforts in Calgary, High River and the Siksika Nation.

All Aboard!
August 29th is your last chance to hop aboard the SS Moyie Paddle wheeler for a ride on Heritage Park’s coolest attraction. Enjoy this unique experience, which takes you on a cruise around the Glenmore Reservoir where you’ll catch glimpses of the Rockies and Calgary’s downtown skyline. The cruise lasts two hours and will include snacks and a live jazz band. Dress code is business casual.

Calum Grahum
On August 28th, Calum Graham will be playing at Lolita’s Lounge in Inglewood. Graham won the grand prize at the Stampede talent search when he was only 17 and is known for his unique instrumental performance. Lolita’s is always a colourful place to catch a performance with an intimate setting that likes to that of a bar from the 1940s. 

Doors open at 6pm. For Tickets call 403-265-5739. $10 in advance and $15 at the door. This event is expected to sell out.

Fort Calgary Rocks
X- Fest is Calgary’s music festival for alternative rock, which is happening over the long weekend. Brought to you by Fort Calgary and X92.9, X-Fest has a big name line up this year including: Blink 182, City and Colour, Death from Above, Passion Pit, the Sheepdogs and the quintessential group known as Weezer. There will be minimal parking but the City Hall C-Train stop is just a few blocks away. There will be a large variety of vendors on site.
