Notable Now Toronto: August 23, 2013

Just Opened: Geraldine
We’ve more fresh blood on the Queen West strip, this time near the Western edge of Parkdale. Located at 1564 Queen Street West, Geraldine restaurant is an homage to days gone by. With a dinner menu that has a turn of the century flair to it (think Welsh rarebit), a late night menu (with Oysters Rockefeller), and lovely libations, Geraldine is ready for the future of the Queen West ‘hood.

Just Opened: Early Bird Espresso Bar
The early bird gets the… latte. That’s right, a new espresso bar has opened up on Queen near Bathurst (613 Queen Street West) to give all us early risers a bit of brewed bliss first thing in the AM. Featuring their own Cold Brew (it’s a thing in the States… will soon be a big thing here) bottles to take home, hand crafted caffeinated bevvies and more, Early Bird is certainly a fast riser on the coffee scene.

Single Tickets Sales for TIFF
In case you haven’t noticed, the city has started to be affected by TIFF fever – that annual hot flash that takes over the downtown core and imbues us with the sense of Hollywood North. Running from Sept. 5 to 15, ticket packages are currently on sale. But come Sept. 1, you’ll be able to get your hands on individual tickets for galas, screenings, and the like. Get your wi-fi ready, it’ll be a fight to the red carpet!

Summer Wine Jam at Airship 37

August 30-September 2: Hot and Spicy Food Festival
From Aug. 30 through Sept. 2 at the Harbourfront Centre, get yer “bismal” on because the Hot and Spicy Food Festival is back to torture… or rather… tempt your tastebuds. Featuring international spicy eats, an Iron Chef style competition, and live entertainment aplenty, this food fest is the place to be on Labour Day Weekend.

Just Opened: Home of the Brave
They’ve done it again, folks! The good peeps behind longtime favourite La Carnita have opened up a second spot, this time on King West – but you won’t find any tacos here. Home of the Brave (589 King Street West) is an ode to Americana awesomeness, with eats like fried bologna sandwiches and Johnny cakes with smoked trout.
