Notable Calgary Canada Day Guide 2013

Canada Day celebrations in Calgary are oft river-centric, but with recent events, plans have been a-changin’. We’ve tracked down two options to show off your national pride as Calgarians band together during flood relief. Check out their websites before heading out to ensure their status hasn’t changed.

The City of Calgary’s celebration will be held at Shaw Millennium Park (1220 9 Avenue SW) starting at 11am and is set to include the creation of a living flag, as well as food vendors and musical entertainment. The living flag involved 3,000 people dressed in red and white in flag formation; an aerial photo will be taken. Stephen Ave will host live performances starting at 11am and DJs from 6pm to 11pm. Down at Olympic Plaza, you can explore aboriginal culture as a powwow takes place from 1pm to 5pm. Pared down fireworks are set for 10:45pm.

Celebrate Canada Day with a Canadiana Food Celebration at Kingsland Farmers’ Market. From 9am-5pm, the market is set to have food trucks, Canadian-inspired meals, a Canadiana scavenger hunt, and music. Pick up something for the grill and ingredients for a summer salad. Or grab some fruit and take it down to the flood relief efforts.
