New Facebook Feature Makes it Easier to Avoid Your Ex

Breaking up is always ‘hard to do’ – but it’s a lot harder now thanks to social media.

One tagged snap of him and a beautiful mystery woman can quickly ruin your morning (and set you into full investigative detective mode), while a Facebook Memories pop-up at the wrong time could produce a massive lump in your throat.

Now, Facebook is making it easier to control how much you see of your ex after a breakup, as they announced in a blog post earlier today.

The company is currently testing an assortment of new prompts that show up in the event of a demise of a relationship you listed on Facebook. This includes the option to remove your ex completely from your newsfeed, or to remove your ex from photo tag and message suggestions, eliminating the constant reminders of their existence (and of their super cute profile picture).

As you move on with your life – and on to the next – the new options also limit your ex from seeing you. And if anyone’s been social media stalked by a former flame on social media, you’ll know how handy that is.

Additionally, if you want to delete the evidence, Facebook will give you the option of automatically untagging or limiting the visibility of posts and photos with your ex. You can either go through each post individually to decide whether to untag yourself or – should you be so brave – get rid of all tags in one clean sweep.

In fact, if you were contemplating a breakup, this new feature could be the added inspiration you need to follow through. Because once it gets too close to the holidays, you’re going to have to wait until January.
