Must Try: Vero Bistro Moderne

Located at 209 10th St. NW in the neighbourhood of Kensington, Vero Bistro Moderne opened in July of 2008 and has been one of Calgary’s most romantic dining spots ever since.

The name Vero is Italian for “true” and Vero Bistro’s slogan is an appropriately themed “welcome to my heart.”

Chef/Owner Jenny Chan is passionate about food and cooking and has developed a great Mediterranean fusion menu with heavy Italian and French influences. Dishes range from house-rolled sweet potato gnocchi to Alberta certified black angus New York steak and truffle fingerling frites with porcini mushroom peppercorn sauce.

They are open throughout the week for lunch and dinner, but this intimate hot spot can fill up quickly in the evenings so call ahead to reserve a table.

For the YP who loves a deal, they have some great specials throughout the week. On Mondays you can order a half dozen oysters and get the second half dozen for free. Thursdays offer a prix fixe menu of 3 courses for $49 with $30/bottle wine specials. They also have a 2-course lunch special for $15, making it a great spot for lunch between meetings.

For those theatre buffs, they offer a special pre-theatre dining menu of 2 courses for $29. Not only is it a great price, you are guaranteed to make it to the show before the curtains open.

Being a leader when it comes to dining, Chef Jenny has also incorporated several gluten-free options throughout the menu.

Vero Bistro is a hidden gem in Kensington that any YP foodie is sure to enjoy.
