Must Try: Triple A Bar

Triple A Bar is a new one on the scene, taking over the spot where Laide once lay at Adelaide and Jarvis. Further to bringing more food to the under-served neighbourhood, Triple A is bringing more Texas to an over-served BBQ market.

The room is pure kitsch: weathered woods, highway signs, single hanging lights. But it works to give that idea of a Texan back-house. You half expect to see cowboy-boot-clad rig workers slung over the bar… but this is Toronto, so…

Right now, Triple A’s menu is small, but it’s going to grow. (They’re cementing their flavours and releasing dishes only when they’re pleased with the execution.) To start, you’ll find chicken n’ waffles with a savory gravy, smoked dry rub ribs, and a Texan beef brisket, among other BBQ delights. Pair any with creamed corn or potato salad and you’ve got yourself a true man’s feast.

Drinks, you ask? Bourbon and tequila are two mainstays at the bar. But don’t worry, beer taps are flowing and cocktails are a-mixin’.

It’ll be neat to see the evolution of Triple A Bar, and see if they can snatch away a portion of the population already in love with BBQ at spots like Barque and Stockyards. But remember kids, no smokes are alike, so try Triple A with open mind, empty stomach.
