Event Recap: Mugler at the Room

Earlier this week, the Notable team was invited to attend an exclusive event at The Bay’s second floor haut-spot du jour, The Room, alongside Vancouver’s fashion elite. The cause for such a gathering: an exclusive opportunity to meet the men behind notable fashion house Mugler, Nicola Formichetti and Sebastien Peigne, for a preview of their Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

This event was definitely not for the fashionably faint of heart and brought together Vancouver’s movers and shakers dressed to impressed. We got a bit of a hint as we climbed the elevator behind a well-heeled couple decked out in haut couture, complete with full fur coat and sleek suiting.

With a glass of Veuve in-hand upon entry, we made our way around the room to do a bit of mingling, instantly taken by the number of young professionals in attendance and eager to meet the dynamic design duo, who were surprisingly approachable.

Amidst casual chit-chat and the obligatory exchange of business cards, attendees were able to peruse pieces from Formichetti and Peigne’s latest collection (think: edgy yet feminine and playful). The designers were easy to engage with and happily walked us through their artistic influences. They explained that as part of their responsibilities to oversee the house of Mugler, their toughest task to date was to successfully revive this provocative (and iconic) brand that has lain dormant for some time. Take a look at some of their latest designs here.

To pay homage to the history of this colourful design house, a retrospective was on display throughout The Room and chronicled the brand’s history during it’s time known as Thierry Mugler in the 80s and 90s. To help bring this to life, mannequins adorn with the brand’s signature couture pieces were strategically placed gallery-style around the space.
