Must Try: Lo Zingaro Ristorante Pizzeria

First it was the Bohemian Gastropub. Next, it became Lucid Cocktail Kitchen, followed by Lucid Pizzeria and Cocktails. And now, with completely new ownership, we have ourselves Lo Zingaro Ristorante Pizzeria.

Lo Zingaro became such about a month or so ago… and very quietly, we might add. The focus with this ‘new’ establishment is on creating updates of Italian classics, and tossing in some odd choices to throw you off. Take the sausage poutine, or the maple truffle pork ribs… not so Italian, right? But intriguing nonetheless.

The rest of the menu reads as fairly tasty contemporary Italian. Rabbit pappardelle is next to herb gnocchetti. Pizzas come dairy-free (read: cheeseless) – like the tonnara with tuna, boiled potatoes, and capers – spicy – as in the Lucifer with spicy pancetta and spicy pecorino – or red or white – meaning with tomato sauce or without. And the wine list, while tiny, is well-priced with mostly Italian varieties.

Not much has changed inside the space, which is still as resplendent as ever. But we hope that this incarnation of the restaurant that could stays awhile… we’d like something to get used to!
