Must Try: Avec Bistro

For those who love French fare, Avec Bistro is definitely a place worth checking out. They recently opened their doors in the Beltline (105-550 11th Ave SW) and are already creating quite the buzz. Proprietors Jackie Cooke, Michael Lazarowich and Kirk Shaw all have extensive experience in the food service industry and bring their expertise in all things food and wine to Calgary diners.

Celebrating the classic French bistro, Chef Darnell Japp has created a menu that features ‘simple’ dishes inspired by classic French bistro fare. We suggest trying the steak frites with local beef and signature Avec aioli, or the duck confit with stewed cherries.

Of course we know how much the French love their wine and Avec’s Sommelier, Jackie Cooke, has developed a wine list that is guaranteed to please any palette. The list leans heavily on French labels, but also includes a number of New World wines.

Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner service, this is great for those YPs who work downtown. The room is intimate, with seating for 66 diners, and is the perfect spot for a lunch with clients or colleagues.

The room features large windows, a wooden bar that evokes the image of a wine crate, and black-and-white photographs, many updates of classic French shots, taken by local talent and featured Notable entrepreneur Phil Crozier.

Avec is also ideal for an intimate night out with a significant other, or a great meal with friends. Looking for a place to host your next function? Avec is able to accommodate private functions and parties for up to 72 people.
