Montreal Weekender: September 13 through 16, 2012

THURSDAY

Notable will be out and about in full force covering a very cool fashion event tonight. The Windsor Social Montreal Edition presented by Frank & Oak will be taking place at The Sparrow. From 6pm to 9pm you can enjoy a drink with fellow Frank & Oak members that will bring their own unique sartorial style. The evening will be a great way to socialize, check out how creative people around you can get with their style, make new friends and meet the Frank & Oak team. If you have never heard of them, it is a Montreal-based workshop that designs, manufactures and curates its own monthly collection of fine clothing and accessories. Cool, right? Another great artsy event going on tonight will be taking place at the current hot spot Galerie 203. The Collezione Elefanti – Child Star was developed by acclaimed singer/songwriter Anna Liani. Her series represents an expression of love, of no limitations and the freedom we feel when drawing like a child. The series recaptures an innocence lost at times in our lives.
Inspired by her four children, Anna is also collaborating with the Saint-Justine’s Hospital Foundation.
Galery 203 always brings together a great crowd and wonderful art. This exhibit is a pop-art lovers dream, don’t miss it (RSVP is mandatory!)

FRIDAY

Being big adrenaline junkies and huge lovers of winter sports, we can’t be more excited that the International Freeski Film Festival has started! iF3 is the biggest gathering of independent movie producers in skiing and draws producers, athletes, and event attendees from 20+ countries. Both fan participation and video submission has increased every year since the event’s inception. The scope of the festival is to unite and promote all aspects of free skiing, and to honour and celebrate the producers, photographers, athletes and everyone else that contributes to the constant progression of the ski industry. The festival runs until the 16th so make sure you catch as much of it as you can – winter is right around the corner and this is the best way to get psyched!

After all the walking around and getting the blood flowing, Coors Light will be throwing a special party for the IF3. Guests of musical honour include the legendary Mixmaster Mike, also known as the only Beastie Boys DJ, beat boxer and The Roots crew member Rahzel and DJ JS-1, who is a famous graffiti artist, producer and beat maker. An old school affair with a new school flare, this will be one crazy concert.

If dance music is what you are craving tonight, our dear friends at The Climaxx Team are organizing a Universal Music Showcase for their 6th year Anniversary Bash at Velvet. Going all the way until 3am, the Climaxx team has booked both Velvet floors in collaboration with Universal Music Showcase to turn Auberge St-Gabriel into a beautiful bourdelle. The groovy sounds of the Head Nodders will bring their unique brand of sexy beats and Danny Torrrence will take over the top floor to get everyone moving. Their parties are legendary in every way; don’t say we didn’t prepare you…

The biking bug has swept Montreal this summer. Everyone is either on a Bixi or has bought their own customized bike and is riding around town rain or shine. The city sees this and provides activities where all our training and recreational ring can be put forth to great causes. Here is where 24htremblant comes in. This is the 3rd edition of the 24h of cycling that will take place on the pristine asphalted tracks of the Circuit Mont-Tremblant from September 14-16th. Recreational and performance cyclists are welcome to this event, which is mainly a fundraiser as well as a weekend to have fun with your teammates while challenging and pushing yourself at the same time. Last year, 89 teams participated with a total of 845 cyclists raising an amazing sum of $453,993 for children fighting cancer and underprivileged kids via the beneficiary foundations; The Cedars Cancer Institute, the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie and Foundation Tremblant. Join them in helping exceed this amount and helping children in need.

SUNDAY

What time is it? It’s tennis time! Oh yes, ladies and gentleman, the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the biggest international team event and features more than 130 countries. Only 16 countries qualify for the prestigious World Group every year and are we ever lucky that it has returned to Montreal. Tennis Canada has selected our fair city to stage the World Group playoff tie. The matches will be played on Court 1 at Uniprix Stadium from September 14-16. Canada vs. South Africa, lets cross our fingers!
