Celebrity frozen yogurt? Sounds like something out of Los Angeles, right? Well look out Montreal, LA’s famous and fabulously delicious Menchies frozen yogurt has planted its yummy goodness in the city.
The hot spot is frequented by A-listers like Selena Gomez and her boy toy Justin Bieber, Ben Affleck, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and, well, if you want to see the wall of fame, you will just have to pop into their location.
The very first “Menchies” Montreal opened its doors on the West Island this week and it has been the talk of town even before its official opening event. We stopped by on a Wednesday night, and the lineup was out the door. Yogurt-loving fans were flooding in trying every flavour under the rainbow, including Red Velvet Cake (made from real cake batter), Passion Fruit, Coconut, Green Tea and the list goes on.
The toppings range from fudge brownies to fresh fruits and real coconut shavings, and basically anything your gluten-free heart desires. The beautiful thing here is that everything is natural, super fresh, low-fat and almost all kosher. We got a tour of the back kitchen to see what wizardry happens live to create these wonderful concoctions, and the answer is passion, dedication and love for the product.
We were treated and shown around by none other than David Lipper, who is the managing partner of the fund that owns the franchise rights, and is working on four more locations around Montreal. If you meet him and he looks familiar its because he had numerous appearances on Full House as Viper, DJ Tanner’s musician boyfriend – can you say hot flashback?!
The grand opening takes place this Saturday and Sunday, and there will be free – yes, we said FREE yogurt – from 11am to 2pm, and then 50% off for the rest of the day. Be ready to wait behind a hungry dessert mob, but it is so worth it because it’s self serve; you’re in complete control of the pleasure levels for your taste buds, and you’ll feel like a “mentsche.”
