Making the Most of the Long Weekend in YVR

Our Notable Weekender was pretty packed with options, but we’ve got a few more things to add to that list as part of the long weekend. Whether you’re staying in or heading out of town, take a quick read below and start planning.

In town: head to the Chinatown Night Market for a cultural fix and escape the norm. With hundreds of vendors on site, music, food and an amazing sense of organized chaos, this has got to be one of our top go-to picks when we’re itching for a taste of the exotic.

Out of town: This weekend also marks the return of the Cloverdale Blueberry Festival. It takes place on Saturday, August 4th, all day, and boasts a loaded agenda with activities and attractions like a blueberry pie eating contest, rides, mini golf course, BMX stunt bike demo, farmers market, car show and exhibition – and plenty more to pack your day.

In town: Veg Fest Vancouver takes place along Granville Street on August 4th and is the perfect way to unleash your inner vegan self. Peruse a packed line up of vendors, demo new vegetarian products and chat with non-profit groups. Look out for various animal rescue organizations who’ll be in attendance as well (Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sactuary and Vancouver Rabbit Rescue, for starters). Mingle and learn between Robson and W.Georgia Street all day.

Out of town: Head to Whistler just because it truly is a great (doable) day-cation, and this long weekend there are still plenty of deals to be had should you wish to extend your visit. Also taking place in Whistler this weekend is the Bull’s-Eye Canadian National BBQ Championships. Check out the grill-savvy pro chefs, catch live music, ride a mechanical bull and eat until you can’t see straight.

In town: Hungry? Well, the Food Cart Fest is back at The Waldorf Hotel and is bound to be even better than last weekend’s inaugural event that saw thousands show up for good eats. Be sure to hit up the food trucks this Sunday, August 5th, from noon to 6pm and see what all the fuss is about.
