Lions, and Tigers, and Bears: Several Dead and Zoo Animals on the Loose in Georgia After Devastating Floods

Disastrous floods in Georgia have led to several deaths and the release of many zoo animals onto city streets.

According to The Guardian, “Heavy rainfall turned the Vere river – which flows through the capital – into a torrent that swept away dozens of buildings and cars. At least 12 people have been killed, according to news agencies, while others are missing.”

Adding to the danger, Tbilisi’s zoo has been completely destroyed, causing animals to take flight into the city’s centre. Bears, lions, tigers, pigs, wolves, and even a hippopotamus have all been seen among the wreckage.

Police are currently hunting the hills above the destroyed zoo for wild animals who pose a threat to the city’s inhabitants.
