Ki Patio: Your New Summer Hotspot

If you’re searching for your new summer hangout for sunny afternoons, look no further than Ki Modern Japanese.

Located on the same block as the Westin and just a few blocks from Prince’s Island, this it’s location is the perfect spot to convene with pals whether you’re coming from the office or taking a detour off the bike path.

Known as more of an upscale sushi spot for business lunches, Ki’s patio is somewhat of a well-kept secret (an attractive feature this time of year) and offers that wonderful Southern exposure, a full service bar, and lots of spots to comfortably lounge in while taking in some heat.

This swanky sushi bar just threw a soiree to introduce Calgary to their latest drink list, and if you’re looking for a refreshing take on standard patio beverages you’ll love what Ki is mixing up.

Much like their food menu, the cocktails are a perfect fusion of East and West. Ki has taken a handful of classic recipes and revamped them by adding sake or plum liqueur as a base. The Sake Mojito is a refreshing choice made with mint, Junmani sake, and nectarines to add a little tangy flavour and tops our list of recommendations.

For those of you who enjoy a good margarita, you’ll want to order their Sapporo take on this classic, which uses strawberry sake and Sapporo beer. After trying one of these, it might be hard to go back to the usual salt-rimmed blender style that you find in many establishments. The Rum Punch is another delicious concoction; a colourful mix of fruit juice and booze perfect for helping you put a long day of work behind.

If you plan to stick around for more than one drink, you’ll (obviously) want to order a few snacks – a definite strength here.  Anything off the Kushiyaki portion of the menu is fantastic and if you’ve never dined at Ki, we suggest you start with the ginger-glazed striploin cubes served with cherry tomatoes, as well as the sake-braised port belly skewers.
