Harry Rosen Spring/Summer 2013 Preview

Last week, Harry Rosen revealed its Spring/summer 2013 collection, warming the dead-of-winter with fun pops of colour and clothing items that made us want to fast-forward a few months. The young professional (YP) male go-to store for everything from the best in weekend wear to business attire is alive this season with bold colours, an acceptance of the more casual, and a subsequently youthful feel offered by the more relaxed vibe – with everything from coloured denim to Dolce and Gabbana graphic tees that feature either a young Richard Gere or Blondie.

“There’s been this real return to expressing individuality through clothes that we haven’t seen to this extent for some time,” says Larry Rosen, CEO and Chairman of Harry Rosen Inc. “Back 10, 12, 15 years ago, most men felt like they had to follow a uniform. Now his options are much more open and there’s been an explosion of interesting clothing as a result.”

With that said, it seems the men will make a statement this season with a profusion of eye-catching colour to hit the racks. Although sometimes daunting for the average YP male, infusing colour into the wardrobe isn’t as intimidating as you would think. “Understanding colour is fundamental to dressing well,” says Paul E. Smith, Fashion Communications Manager at Harry Rosen. “For men who still find the idea of incorporating colour into their look intimidating, we suggest you start slowly and add flashes of colour to your wardrobe, like a colourful pocket square, tie or a patterned sock.” The store will be filled with solid, coloured suits and shirts with accessories that add a youthful excitement.

“Men really do care. They want to look great and Harry Rosen is better positioned than ever to help them out,” says Larry Rosen. “We’re increasing our square footage and delivering Canadian men the absolute latest looks, whether for work or play.”

Harry Rosen Spring/Summer 2013 Trends for the Urban Male (Aside from Colour):

Slimmer Suits. Softly constructed suits in a slimmer silhouette, in suits that are, as Paul Smith says, “perfect to wear to work while keeping you cool this summer.”

The Perfect Polo. The summertime staple polo t-shirt is represented in virtually every collection from Fred Berry and Burberry to Versace. Of course, these are all available in a selection of bold, bright colours, under the collar finishes and patterns.

The Beloved Bomber. The bomber is the casual alternative to the blazer this spring, making for a great travel piece or staple for transition from day to night.

All about Accessories. Harry Rosen is busting at the seams with accessories like webbing belts in a rainbow of colours, both black-tie-appropriate and sporty bowties, colourful pocket squares and patterned socks.

Fabulous Footwear. What gives this season’s coveted footwear its “fabulous” designation is a revolutionary infusion of colour with bold, athletic-inspired detail. This includes things like Cole Haan’s Lunar Grand series with its signature shock of colour on the distinctive soles, giving them more personality than the average office-appropriate sole. Finally accepted as appropriate office wear, the loafer is making a bright appearance in a veritable sea of colour with Driving Shoes by Tod’s.

New arrivals exclusive to Harry for Spring 2013 include:

Roberto Cavalli’s diffusion line, Just Cavalli, is designed by a new generation of fashion-loving males. It will feature bold, youthful cuts and prints with a distinct signature European edge.

Harry Rosen partners with longtime running shoe favourite, New Balance, to exclusively feature select colours of the New Balance M1500s statement trainer, which is part of the New Balance “Made in England” collection.

Ralph Lauren’s RLX Golf Collection is dedicated to performance-driven design but offers the style you would expect from the iconic brand. It features progressive fits and sophisticated, graphic styles in the most technologically advanced fabrics available that are designed to keep you cool during a high-pressure game.
