Event Recap: Royal Tea Baby Shower

On Sunday, May 19, the Fairmont Palliser hosted a Royal Tea Baby Shower in anticipation of the impending arrival of Will and Kate’s baby.

Cribs were filled to their brims with gifts collected for donation to Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta.

Guests donned fascinators and hats and were welcomed with a glass of Moet bubbly before sitting down to tables decorated with floating candles. The room’s design for the event included confetti-esque tablecloths executed by Lynn Fletcher Weddings.

Fruit cocktail takes on a new meaning when fresh fruit is served in a martini glass, and the cute tea sandwiches made us miss the days our mothers cut off our crusts.

International violinist Sophie Serafino entertained the crowd with a performance of Mozart and The School of Alberta Ballet’s Emerging Artists performed ‘Bohemian Dances’ from George Bizet’s Carmen, choreography by Aram Manukyan. Ballerinas were the Fairmont Palliser’s best guess for what Prince William and Kate would also host at their own baby shower; and their inclusion certainly felt regal.

Our knowledge of all things Will and Kate was tested as tablemates turned competitors in the shower game. The winner of each table won a tin of “Savoy Blend” loose leaf tea sent directly from, and served only at, the Palliser’s sister property, The Savoy in London, England.

Guests got to take home delectable macarons as favours, as well as memories of a fun-filled Sunday afternoon.
