Escape to Nakoda on the Lake

As Young Professionals, getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of city life is pretty standard. A vibrant city, Calgary always seems to have something going on. But surrounding the city is some sacred land that naturally bring a tranquility that can rejuvenate you after even the most hectic week.

Owned by Wesley First Nations, Nakoda on the Lake Spa Lodge and Conference Centre offers a true retreat atmosphere in a picturesque setting. A short 45-minute drive from Calgary, it is nestled on the secluded shores of Lake Chief Hector and is surrounded by peaceful mountain forests. Nakoda on the Lake offers a getaway in the Canadian Rockies that is easily accessible from Calgary; located on the Stoney First Nations Reserve, it is a short drive to Kananaskis Country, Canmore and Banff.

Nakoda on the Lake originally opened as a wilderness centre in 1981 in order to introduce society to the philosophy and methods that allowed Stoney people to live in the wilderness. The wilderness centre allowed guests to gain first-hand insight and understanding into Stoney values and ways of life. Since its creation, Nakoda on the Lake has hosted weddings, corporate conferences and retreats while continuing the tradition of promoting Stoney culture locally and internationally.

The lodge has an intimate, rustic charm, while still offering the modern conveniences you need. Lodging is spacious and the warm décor helps ease you into a slower state of mind. Think fireplaces, down duvets and large comfy beds.

Feeling a little more adventurous? During the summer months, they offer teepee accommodation as an unique First Nations experience. A true camping endeavour, you can star gaze as you enjoy the quiet crackle of bon fires.

Interested in learning more about the Stoney people’s way of life? During your stay, you can partake in authentic cultural activities, cultural shows, handicraft activities, nature walks and historical elder storytelling, all of which are available on a pre-booked fee basis.

The Lodge also has the Verde Day Spa on location (open during the summer season), which offers an array of aesthetic and massage services, providing a milieu of relaxation, healing and well being, while preserving and respecting the natural environment by using product lines that reflect ‘green’ beliefs at the same time.

Nakoda on the Lake is also ideal for special events. Whether it is a wedding, corporate retreat, or team-building opportunity, the knowledgeable staff will help make your event a unique experience.
