Netflix is making it rain on comedy in a major way.
A month after announcing it will pay Chris Rock $40 million for two stand-up performances, everyone’s favourite gateway to sex has announced it will debut three comedy specials by widely beloved Dave Chappelle.
So for everyone eagerly hoping Chappelle would return to TV after hosting the first post-election Saturday Night Live, your wish has been granted. These will be Chappelle’s first TV specials in over a decade.
“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential,” said Netflix VP of original documentary and comedy Lisa Nishimura.
“Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy.”
Netflix and Chapelle will work together to produce an original stand-up special, while two more secret stand-ups will be released on the streaming service on the same date.
That date has not yet been announced.
“The only thing harder than leaving show business is coming back,” Chappelle once said.
We think he’ll do just fine.
