Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld to Design Macau Hotel

Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld has announced his plans to design his first hotel with SJM, the world’s largest casino operator in Macau. The hotel will be a 20-storey tower with 270 rooms situated within the Lisboa Palace luxury development and is set to open in 2017.

Lagerfeld began designing spaces with Hôtel Métropole’s pool in Monte-Carlo in August and has recently signed on to design two luxury suites in Hôtel de Crillon in Paris.

Lagerfeld has described the Macau hotel as feeling intimate and personal, with a 19th-century style that remains modern at the same time.

“You know, Gabrielle Chanel always said, ‘I only make dresses I would wear’. And I make only rooms where I would like to sleep. It’s as simple as that. When I do a thing like this, I think, ‘Would you live there or not? Do you want to wake up there? Do you think the bathroom is comfortable?’ It’s very childish thinking, but, you know, it’s like the song ‘My Way.’”
