Thursday night, head to the Glenbow’s ConocoPhillips Theatre from 7:00pm to 8:30pm for In Conversation: Made in Calgary: the 1960s. The talk about Calgary’s art community in the 60s is $10 for members or $12 for the general public. Call 403.268.4110 to reserve your tickets. 

Friday
Catch one of the last performances of the TransCanada Alberta Music Series this weekend with the MixTape Session Friday night at the Epcor Centre’s Engineered Air Theatre. The MixTape Session features The Jessica Jalbert Band, The Mountaineer & Wil. You may remember Wil from Tuesday nights at the old Penny Lane Ceili’s before he headed out West. Horror fanatics will be stoked for the opening of Evil Dead this Friday. The “most terrifying film you will ever experience” features ancient demons in a remote forest cabin setting, and is definitely not a rom-com. The flick will be on screens at Westhills, Chinook and Eau Claire among others.

Saturday
Saturday is International Pillow Fight Day. Calgary is not currently on the list of registered events, but you never know, so keep your eyes peeled, a pillow handy and and check out the site for a last-minute addition… or just whack a buddy with a couch cushion on your way out.

The William Perehudoff exhibition debuts this Saturday at an opening reception from 1-4 pm at Newzones. The Saskatoon native’s artistic career spanned more than 70 years and his work has been exhibited in major international cities including London, Paris, New York, Toronto and Chicago. His paintings have been in the National Gallery of Canada and the Museum of Civilization and you can check out five decades worth here in Calgary. Newzones, 730 11th Ave SW

Sunday
If your pad is in need of something new, or you’re just looking for something to do inside this weekend, head to Inside Avenue Antiques. It’s an antique store comprised of a series of mini shops, many of which were former tenants of the Antique Mall. They just expanded their space this week, so check out their wares, everything from vintage bags to Mad Men-style cocktail glasses. Inside Avenue Antiques, 3419 8 St SE, Calgary, AB

If you’re more modern than antique, and have a penchant for diction, head down to Festival Hall for the Calgary Spoken Word Festival. A $10 entrance fee gains you access to A Tribute to this Land—The Elder Project, which highlights the first peoples of this area – of Treaty 7 – Siksika Nation (Blackfoot), Piikani Nation (Peigan), Kainai Nation (Blood), Tsuu T’ina Nation (Sarcee), Stoney Nation, Nakoda Nation.
