Calèches Have Been Officially Banned on Montreal’s Old Port Streets

Montreal’s mayor Denis Coderre has officially announced that no calèches will journey through the streets of Montreal’s Old Port during the summer of 2016.

Coderre wants to reevaluate the dossier after many complaints from citizens on the practice.

The video below shows an incident involving a car & calèche collision in Griffintown, a Montreal borough, earlier in 2016. Just one of many incidents to occur in the industry in the past several years.

The ban officially starts on Tuesday, May 24th.
