Adamo Mariani: Today’s Notable Young Professional

Today’s Notable Young Professional is Adamo Mariani, who’s the definition of “people person.” We caught up with the part owner of Montreal’s Matinee Brunch and Somwhr Liquor Lounge to find out what inspired his work and what advice he would share with other young professionals…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
My main role in any business is that I am a part of its customer service. It is my job to generate clients, market to these clients, and, most importantly, keep my clients happy.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
When I was 18, my uncle owned a nightclub called The Dome. He hired me as a bartender, and from then on I realized how much I loved the industry and how much I enjoyed working with people. It was a natural progression to move into real estate as I was able to generate a client base from the countless people I met every week.

From there, we created Matinee Brunch. We, my partners and I, noticed there was a need to start something that catered to our demographic where anyone, even an individual with a family, can come and enjoy a day party.

Somwhr Liquor Lounge was created because I was surrounded with Montreal’s best marketing, brand managers, and operators this city has ever seen, and we were able to all come together on our first project. It was long overdue! I can officially say I have the best job in the world.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of my day is working with people who are the complete opposite of me, which allows me to be myself and strive in what I am good at. The most challenging part is time management. I’ve learned in my years that it’s better to do one thing really great than to do multiple things average.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I feel like so much of my career has progressed in such a short period of time that in five years there is no reason why I’m not the Mayor of Montreal. Kidding aside, politics has always been an interest of mine and something I can see for my future. But for now, I see myself still managing multiple businesses with the same partners, just on a grander scale.

What does success look like to you?
Considering money has never been my motivation or drive for happiness, being able to create and to grow freely with people I respect tremendously is what makes me a success.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
In real estate it was launching one of Montreal’s largest condo projects, YUL. For Matinee Brunch it would be the day that people started calling us Matinee and not Bagatelle. Since Somwhr is so young, I’d say the milestone was the day we opened the doors and the look on each of my partners’ faces when we actually did it. It was one of the happiest moments of my life.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Do what you love and make sure to do that better than anyone. Be positive. I know it’s easier said than done, but if you work hard and stay positive, you will live a long and happy life.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I am all about the childrens charities. Kids for Kids, Children of S.M.A and the Sugar Ball (Bal Sucré) are my main focuses. Giving back to children in need and protecting our way of life through culture is what motivated me to give back to these charities.

What to you is notable?
Being notable is being successful at your chosen path without sacrificing who you are as an individual.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
iPhone all day!
