You Can Now Learn a Foreign Language as You Surf the Web

You’ve been meaning to learn a new language… but just “don’t have time.”

Yet you spend a good chunk of your free time surfing the web, sometimes aimlessly.

Plus, they say that the best way to learn a new language is so immerse yourself in it as much as possible – and a few months spent overseas is definitely not in your cards at the moment.

Enter Readlang

It’s a web app and Chrome extension that works as a standalone website and helps you learn by translating websites and developing flashcards that word lists for you.

Here’s how it works: you paste or upload a book or article in the language you want to learn or are currently studying. With Readlang’s minimalist reader, you can then click on the words or sentences you don’t know and they will be translated back into English (or your native language).

You can also learn via an assortment of public texts and videos shared by other users, which are complete with filters for levels of difficulty and word length.

The Chrome extension works in a similar fashion and translates phrases on webpages to English or your native language through Google Translate.

Other perks include the ability to customize a dictionary and synchronize YouTube videos to transcriptions, and its ability to produce flashcards. It keeps track of the phrases you’ve translated and creates personalized flashcards for you to practice with.

Readlang works on all devices and supports over 50 languages.
