Notable Getaways: Camping Near Montreal

Who doesn’t love camping? Well, actually, lots of people don’t; and if you’re one of them, please feel free to browse the myriad of other articles on Notable.ca, we won’t be offended. But for those of you who relish the idea of packing a camper, grabbing a few friends, and heading out into the wilderness for some fun by the beach and nights by the campfire, we’ve brought you this list of notable camping areas not-too-far from Montreal.

Algonquin Provincial Park
Notable for being the first provincial park in Ontario, Algonquin is the epitome of the perfect campground in central Canada. Expansive beaches, lush wildlife, backcountry camping…can you really ask for anything else? How about Brook and Lake Trout for dinner, because Algonquin Park is a prime fishing spot as well.

Stowe, Vermont: Smugglers’ Notch State Park
Smugglers’ Notch State Park was relocated in 2003, and sits tightly in a narrow pass through the Green Mountains. Bingham Falls, the original Civilian Conservation Corps’ structures, and Mt. Mansfield await you. And Smugglers’ Notch is but a stones throw away from the Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory…just in case you don’t want to feel completely disconnected from civilization.

Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York
The Adirondack Region of northern New York has been a favourite destination for the camping-inclined for decades. This classic summer retreat is a tourist haven, with festivals and events all summer long. Take a ride on a scenic boat cruise on the sparkling lakes, venture into any one of the world-class museums, or catch a military reenactment, all before you head back to camp for drinks by the fire. And don’t forget your hiking boots, the Adirondacks are a trailblazer’s fantasy.

Mont Tremblant National Park
Mont Tremblant National Park is the perfect destination for campers who want more than to hang around a tent and gaze at trees. Canoeing, mountain biking, zip lining, rock climbing and so much more are here to add to your summer getaway. Bring your wallet and your poker face – and might we suggest some strong cologne or perfume – the Casino de Mont-Tremblant is ready to show you a night out on the scenic town.
