YP Hot Spot: Thirsty and Miserable

Finally! A new brew pub has opened that directly reflects the curmudgeon-y personalities typically associated with dark-lit-room drinkers. (This writer included.) Thirsty and Miserable quietly opened with an apparently not-so-organized first night on the 22nd of February. (To quote their Facebook page: “Thanks to everyone who stopped in for our not so well organized trial opening last night. I guess it’s official, we are open.”)

It’s on Baldwin Street and in no time has amassed a small cult following thanks to clever Facebook updates showcasing a self-deprecating personality. But don’t let the coy talk fool you, Thirsty and Miserable takes their beer seriously. Very seriously.

At present, there are about eight draught taps and over 30 bottles, offering up everything from local favourites (like Mill Street’s brews) to rarer and unusually named recipes like Rogue Dead Guy and La Fin du Monde. Many will likely rotate based on popularity and seasonal selection. Order up a few and sit down in one the purposely vandalized tables. For instance, “Everybody needs something to believe in…I believe I’ll have another beer.”

For the YP who likes a nice chop of pub grub, Thirsty and Miserable delivers a small assortment of unfussy plates. The recent menu saw Salisbury ‘Steakette’ and Sliced Turkey in Gravy. We will say the prices seem a little steep for what they are, but hey, it’s Baldwin Street. What do you expect?

For now, Thirsty and Miserable’s hours are 6pm through last call, though these will likely change as the establishment gains traction and the weather warms. Until then, whether you are actually thirsty and miserable or contrastingly thirsty and jubilant, stop in to this “beer geek dive bar” for a few bottles of the carbonated magic.
