There Apparently Exists a Porn-Detection Machine That Can Scan Your Phone for Nudes

News out of Uganda has us believing that someone somewhere has developed technology that can detect porn on digital devices.

And the small African nation’s government is hell-bent on buying it.

In an effort to stamp out pornography – the country passed a harsh anti-porn law two years ago that punishes dick pics with a 10-year jail sentence – Uganda has shelled out over $120,000 for the nudity-detection machine.

It will be able to detect whether you have nude photos, videos, or other such material on your phone and other electronic devices.

It’s a backwards and misdirected law, but we’re not here to morally police a country or tell its president that 120k would be better spent on schools and hospitals.

What we’re curious about is how the hell this thing works. Does it ping government officials every time it detects an eggplant-shaped object? What about unsolicited nudes or photos of anything round?

According to Quartz, Uganda’s minister of ethics, Simon Lokodo, is scant on how the machine will actually function. He assures media, however, that the South Korean technology does in fact exist and work.

Anyway, we just want you to know that something like this maybe, quite possibly, probably exists, and to start thinking about how it can affect your life.
