Notable Now Toronto: January 18, 2013

Just Opened: Global Food Bar
When Bazaar Global Food Bar closed on Mount Pleasant, patrons of this eclectic eatery were downtrodden. Luckily, it just switched spots, and has moved to a new home on the ever-burgeoning Baldwin Street, addressed at 33, to be precise. Featuring a menu of – no shock – global goods, Global Food Bar presents the best from many of the cultures found in our greatly diverse city.

Just Opened: Junction Craft Brewing
In mid-December Toronto was treated to another craft brewing company: Junction Craft Brewing, found in, not surprisingly, the Junction (at 90 Cawthra Avenue). Featuring a tap room to sample its brews, and a retail store so you can take ’em home, Junction Craft Brewing is bringing more artisanal love to the beer scene in the city.

Art Battle 42
The next Art Battle (number 42) takes over the Great  Hall (1087 Queen Street West) on Jan 22. The event goes down like this: Painters create works of art in a frenzy-filled 20 minute competition while viewers watch and analyze the creative process. Once the round ends, the audience votes for their favourite and a silent auction means you can walk away with an original painting, done right before your eyes.

Canada’s Official Super Bowl XLVII Party
On Feb 3 at Sound Academy (11 Polson Street), join hundreds of other fans in the ultimate Super Bowl XLVII Party. The most exciting and authentic way to watch Super Bowl XLVII – aside from actually going – will have NFL cheerleaders, players, personalities and prizes all on-hand next to a New Orleans inspired spread for your viewing, partying, and rumbling enjoyment. Touchdown!

FFWD 2013
From Jan 28 to Feb 1, AdWeek FFWD takes over Toronto’s creative scene. Held at various venues around the city, different panels, workshops, cocktail parties, and the Canadian advertising awards, the Cassies, will make our metropolis feel like a live action Mad Men. It’s five days of uninhibited creative glory, and it’s the perfect excuse to get out, network, and discover all that us Canadians bring to the extensive world of advertising.

Gatsby Gala
On Feb 18 at the newly-renovated Arcadian Court and Loft (401 Bay Street, 9th Floor), enter into a world of the past at the Gatsby Gala. This visually-charged evening will stun and awe guests with art deco inspired fashion and decor, a classy casino, and free-flowing libations, all in support of Canada’s National Ballet School.
