Notable Now Toronto: February 21, 2014

Paul Simon & Sting
Date: March 1
Location: ACC

This is, without any doubt, the double billing of the year. Two legends, each still capable of putting on a series of sold out shows on their own, team up to present something new and inspiring to the generations that have followed them. They’re only in Toronto for one night but we’re pretty sure seeing them share the stage will be a memory that will last forever.

The Artists Project
Date: Feb. 20-23
Location: Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place

This is art without the middlemen. Over 250 of the hottest Canadian and international contemporary artists will be on site ready to shake your hand and sell you their art. Everyone from experienced collectors to first-time buyers are welcome to wander through the vast selection. Of course, we expect gallery dealers and interior designers will also be trying to find their own deals, too. Just don’t ask anyone, ‘but is art, art?’ and you should be fine.

Whiskylicious
Date: Feb. 24
Location: Various

Okay math, don’t fail us now. 14 days, 10 whisky brands, 8 bars, 24 new whisky cocktails = heaven? Yes, heaven is the correct answer. You buy a ‘passport’, take it around to amazing bars like Montauk and The Drake, drink whiskey, and each ‘stamp’ you collect on said passport will enter you to win a trip for two to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Is this even a choice?

Kings of Leon
Date: Feb. 26
Location: ACC

One of the biggest American bands going right now, Kings of Leon will be stopping by T.O. next week on their Mechanical Bull Tour. While we’re sad to hear there won’t actually be a mechanical bull involved in the show, we’re pretty sure that these guys are one of the most energetic live acts you’re going to catch all year. With a catalogue of six solid albums to choose from, Kings of Leon also have something too many current acts lack. Namely, some depth.

Reel Artists Film Fest
Date: Feb. 19-23
Location: TIFF Bell Lightbox

The Canadian Art Foundation’s 11th annual Reel Artists Film Festival has already kicked off, so if you haven’t already been checking out the documentary films devoted exclusively to visual art and artists, we suggest you get on it before it’s all over. There are interviews, panel conversations, and several screenings to check out as well as additional content featuring famed artists, directors, and art experts. Did we mention there’ll be art?

Recipe For Change
Date: Feb. 27
Location: St. Lawrence Market, North Building

The National Post calls it “The perfect foodie fundraiser” while the Toronto Star simply settles for labeling it their “favourite food event of the year.” This celebration of local food supports FoodShare’s innovative work in schools. It also happens to include the opportunity to mingle with 30 of this city’s most impressive chefs, taste up to 20 VQA wines, and sip 6 local craft beers. And yes, you’ll be fed too.
