Notable Now Toronto: February 15, 2013

Just Opened: Brioche Doree
Ah, Brioche Doree… the name conjures thoughts of Parisian cafes, berets, and, of course, golden brioche. Luckily, the name doesn’t disappoint. In its first downtown locale (beneath the Six 50 condos at 648 King Street West), this French chain is serving up decadent delights like fresh croissants, crepes, and quiches.

Just Opened: The Burgernator
Move over Arnold, you ain’t got nothin’ on this joint. The Burgernator recently opened up in Kensington Market (269 Augusta Avenue). Looking to take a bite out of Toronto’s love of the patty, The Burgernator has a strict moral code when it comes to making their prized eats. As they say, “The burger is our weapon. The city our battlefield.”

Just Opened: Appetite
May we whet your appetite? Okay, so maybe we can’t, but Appetite – a new Riverside comfort food eatery/take-out joint at 722 Queen Street East – totally can. Featuring amazing grab-and-go eats like pot pies and rotisserie chicken, Appetite also boasts delicious eat-in options like Virginia ham and Gruyere or roast beef with aged Thunder Oak Gouda sandwiches.

Reel Artists Film Festival
Celebrating 10 years, the Reel Artists Film Festival runs Feb 20 through 24 at TIFF Bell Lightbox, Reitman Square (350 King Street West). RAFF is North America’s only festival completely devoted to showcasing documentary films about visual art and artists, with a curated program of films created by renowned artists and filmmakers.

8th Annual Olive Branch Gala
On March 1 at Bellevue Manor (8083 Jane Street in Vaughan), join the fight to help improve the quality of life for children in remote communities in Tanzania – especially those affected by HIV/AIDS. This fundraising dinner/dance supports Olive Branch for Children’s initiatives in Tanzania, and nets you the opportunity to mix and mingle with philanthropic young professionals.

ROUGE
On Feb. 28 at The Fifth Social Club (225 Richmond Street West), join hundreds of other young professionals at this next generation fundraiser for the United Way. Now in its 10th year, ROUGE is all about getting the upcoming generation to “share the love” with their community through this event that combines drinks, dancing, food, music, a silent auction, and more.
