Nike Releases YouTube Series for Those Overwhelmed by Exercise

There’s a constant stream of hashtags on Instagram and across social media reminding us daily that we should get off our lazy butts and go workout.

More often than not, however, the constant calls to exercise only serve to root me even deeper to the couch, and make me feel intimidated by all the fit bods and washboard abs out there.

Just me? Well, apparently not, because Nike has tapped in to the psychology of those among us who feel overwhelmed and daunted by the fitness fanatics of the world who are always crushing it at the gym.

The sport giant has created an original web series called Margot vs Lily, which you can view on their Nike Women’s YouTube Channel.

The series is based around two adopted sisters who have nothing more in common than their parents and… well, that’s about it actually.

Lily has her own YouTube channel called LilyNinjaFitness in the series, and shrewdly in real life too. Recently fired Margot, on the other hand, is less motivated by exercise and declines offers to “outrun the sad with dad” and Lily, opting for yet another glass of Cab Sauv with her mom instead.

Meanwhile, an isolated Lily is struggling to make friends, so the pair make a pact on New Year’s. Margot will start her own fitness channel and gain 1,000 subscribers, and Lily will try to make three friends.

The best part about the series is that it uses a real director,  actors, and writers – and the result is pretty fantastic. There are eight episodes in total and I guess only time will tell if the ick-factor increases as we draw towards the conclusion, with each sister’s realization that fitness is awesome but friendship is also super important too, you guys.

For now, the whole thing is pretty enjoyable. Most of us probably engage in at least a little exercise from time to time. But ultimately the fact remains that a large section of those who do would much rather watch another Netflix episode and push that date with the gym back until tomorrow.

It’s certainly an interesting strategy; Nike is creating a series of eight episodes in the hope that we’ll be so hooked we’re drawn back to our laptops every week. They’re short enough that they don’t take too much out of our day, and here’s hoping the take-home message can deliver.

A new episode will air every Monday and the series debuted this week. You can watch the first episode, Resolutions, here:

I’ll think I might just watch the first episode one more time. And then I’ll definitely hit the gym.
