Must Try: Tavola

Every so often we like to revisit one of our old go-to favourites for a lazy Tuesday night meal. One such sweet spot always on our radar is Tavola located in Vancouver’s West End.

Just like its uber-popular sister location, Nook (located just around the corner), Tavola always has plenty of fresh items on constant rotation. Check out their chalkboard of specials, as well as a finely-tuned set menu selection guaranteed to fill your belly…hello hump-day leftovers.

The open and roomy concept of Tavola features a quaint, covered patio and central communal table that easily seats up to 14 or more people – perfect for impromptu post-work gatherings or special occasions. A welcoming long-bar is the perfect spot for a bit of casual, noteworthy people-watching while sipping a glass from their selection of Italian wine. The overall feel of Tavola is the perfect mix of cozy, casual and eclectic all rolled up into one.

Adjacent to the bar and long table, you’ll find the inviting Mozza Bar, featuring a variety of specialty regional cheeses accompanied by a choice of different meat, vegetables and other authentic Italian treats. Might we suggest you order a sampling of Burrata with sea salt and olive oil or Mozarella di Bufala with La Quercia prosciutto?

Save plenty of room for a few family-style sharing plates that emphasize inspiration drawn from showcasing simple flavours throughout the menu. On our notable list of must-try items: crisp crostini loaded with crushed walnut pesto, gorgonzola cheese and sliced pear and a side of eggs served with anchovies. Seasonally, we’ve tucked into daily features such as watermelon and basil salad served with feta and fava beans for a refreshing taste…though the house arugula salad with parmesan and lemon is equally enticing.

Looking for the perfect pasta fix? You’ve come to the right place; order from a selection of housemade pastas served with an assortment of fresh, delectable ingredients (gnocchi with pine nuts or campanelle pasta with chickpeas and pancetta are divine). Or opt for something less carb-laden and try their juicy, organic brick chicken with a roasted garlic jus for something tender and crispy.
