Must Try: Community Cafe

As YPs, we love food….but we are also a health-conscious bunch. Eating out doesn’t necessarily mean unhealthy, especially when you have options like Community Cafe. Located within Community Natural Foods (1304 10 Ave SW), Community Cafe offers diners a great selection of options.

Community Natural Foods has been a staple in Calgary since 1977, bringing health-conscious Calgarians products that are healthy, organic and environmentally-friendly. For years, the Cafe was a great spot to grab a quick bite. But the recently renovated and expanded space is now an inviting spot where YPs can enjoy a healthy meal while catching up with friends. The undertaking included an expansion of the Cafe, giving them the ability to offer a larger selection of food items.

Set up cafeteria style, there are several different stations to choose from. In the centre there is a large build-your-own salad bar with a variety of delicious ingredients. Interested in a beverage? There is a coffee/smoothie/juice station with enough choices to please any diner. They also have made-to-order sandwiches and a hot food station with daily specials such as dairy-free mac and cheese, marinated vegetables, and lasagna, along with a number of new items including burritos and pizza (with gluten-free options).

The space was also designed to be as sustainable as possible. From moving to LED lighting, and using FSC Wood for the new arbor roof, it is clear that the Cafe is a representation of the company’s values.

Considering the Cafe is in Community Natural Foods, why not hit the market after grabbing a bite to eat? Peruse their selection of unrefined and organic foods and healthy natural products. They work with local farmers and producers whenever possible in order to strengthen the local economy and reduce the footprint of the products carried. As a result, they have formed relationships with producers of a wide variety of produce (carrots, beets, potatoes, tomatoes, etc.), grains and cereals, dairy products, mustard, honey, and both fresh and frozen meats.
