Lexus Claims to Have Just Built a Real Hoverboard

Well folks, the wheels have officially come off…in a good way.

As of this week, you can all put away your skateboards, hang up your rollerblades, and incinerate your hipster fixies (no, seriously, incinerate them) because science has finally caught up with necessity:

Hoverboards are real.

And obviously, they’re made by Lexus.

(Insert record scratch and confused Scooby Doo noise)

Yes, Lexus the car company. They’ve certainly come a long way since rap lyrics.

According to the promotional site for SLIDE, “The Lexus Hoverboard uses magnetic levitation to achieve amazing frictionless movement. Liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors and permanent magnets combine to allow Lexus to create the impossible.”

And in true Lexus style, atop all that mind-blowing technology, is an elegant layer of bamboo.

(Insert soft “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh” and one awkward “Is that ‘cause they’re Japanese?” from crowd)

In the teaser video above, you’ll notice that there is no evidence of being able to support the weight of a human standing on the hoverboard as it moves, but those are minor details I’m sure they’ve figured out.

It looks like a board and it sure seems to hover. That’s all I need to know to list my car on AutoTrader.
