Four Ways to See Montreal

For those of you travelling to Montreal, there are multiple options when it comes to getting around the city. The beauty of Montreal is that it is a dense and small city, and very easy to navigate by foot, car, public transportation or bike. To make your next visit as notable as it can be, we have outlined below the different ways to get around. Take up any of the following options and you will find yourself exploring the city as if you are a local.

Bixi
Montreal was the first Canadian city to adopt the European public bike share craze. After spending lots of money developing safe bike lanes throughout the city, Montreal introduced Bixi, a bike share and rental system where on an ‘as need basis’ or small yearly fee, you can access public bikes located conveniently at multiple bike stations throughout the city. All you need is a credit card and good shoes, and the city is at your fingertips.

Montreal Metro (Subway)
Much like other major metropolitan cities, Montreal has a very fast and convenient subway (or metro) system. With subway entrances at almost every few blocks, the four-line system takes you East-West and North -outh to enable you to hit every single important area and neighborhood in the greater Montreal area. From Old Montreal all the way to Little Italy, there’s a subway line that can take you there. For just 3 dollars, you can take a ride and explore the city like a pro.

Taxis
It is exceptionally affordable to take taxis in Montreal because of it’s condensed city centre. Unlike Toronto, where it can take upwards of 30 minutes to traverse one side of the downtown core to the other, most trips within the Greater Montreal Area take 15 minutes tops. There are a plethora of taxis roaming the streets and always a cabstand within blocks of every major downtown point.

Old Montreal Horse and Buggy
While exploring the Old Port, hop on a horse and buggy and enjoy a slow-paced but very scenic and informative traverse of Montreal’s Old City. You can jump off and on as you pass by trendy clothing boutiques and aromatic cafes, and the drivers are usually incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the area and can offer you some notable facts along the way.
