Four Perfectly Autumn Friendly Montreal Cafes

With temperatures dropping faster than Kardashian ratings, it’s only natural that we are on the lookout or already have our list of spots to cozy in, work from or catch up with friends at. It’s no secret that Montrealers love a good ol’ coffee and accompanying mood-setting soundtrack. Yes, indeed, the tunes coming out of those vintage speakers are just as essential as the place itself. So without further ado, here are four cafes that we just love cozying up to with our laptop and mug of latte in hand.

Lili & Oli – 2515 Notre-Dame St W
This quaint spot in Notre Dame’s St. Henri hood is long beloved by locals. How can you tell? The owner pretty much seems to know everyone by name. The service is always such a pleasure as engaging in stories is just something you do there, while the coffee is delicious and always on point. No frills or gimmicks, just a great tasting roast… you can spice it up to a cappuccino or latte if you so desire. Free wi-fi, vintage décor, delish pastries and people watching – welcome to Lili & Oli.

Cafe Sardine – 9 Avenue Fairmount East
Tucked away on the corner of Fairmount and St. Laurent in the Mile End, this hipster-ish spot is a real gem for plenty of reasons. Although not large in size, you might have to cozy up to a stranger, which always could make for a fun encounter. The plentiful light beaming in, beautiful dark wood, vintage accents, and murals make this a spot that could easily be found on a cobblestone street in Europe. The notable part? Great coffee and a large selection of teas, as well and their donuts, are to drool for. They also have free wi-fi on premise for all you suit and New Balance wearing YPs!

The Humble Lion – 904 Sherbrooke W
The Humble Lion screams passion when you enter its location at 904 Sherbrooke West, from the custom-made décor to the baristas; everything is authentic, unique and made from love. The name comes from the owner’s history of crossing paths with amazing baristas who have always remained humble… this is his tribute to them and his dream. The great thing here is that there is space, so getting a table should never been an issue unless its exam season for the McGill bunch. The coffee selection is standard, from cappuccinos to lattes, always fresh and satisfying. Also, your tea comes in a teapot, which is rare these days. And yes, the free wi-fi is a nice little bonus.

Campanelli – 4634 Notre Dame W
Ok, so this is definitely not a spot to host a lot of people as there are no real tables, only bar stools, but that actually adds to the vibe. Besides the tasty coffee, amazing muffin selection and truly uber-cool décor typical and true to St. Henri, this place is known for its sandwiches… and what sandwiches they are! Think warm smoked meat, deluxe meatball, cheese and apple, and more, more, more! Their menu is always up on a chalkboard and gets updated all the time. Another cool part? The Cafe is directly connected through an open door to their store, a sleek retail space with brands like WeSC, Penfield, Brixton to name a few. Coffee, smoked meat and shopping all in one? Yes, sir!
