A year or so ago, Facebook launched its Safety Check feature, which allows people in emergency and disaster areas to effectively ‘check in’ and let their loved ones know whether or not they’re safe.
Tonight, Facebook has turned on its Safety Check for those in Paris.
If you are in Paris and want to let people know you’re safe, go to the Paris Terror Attacks page and check in. You can also search for your friends and loved ones with the tool as well as turn on notifications so you’ll receive updates whenever new Facebook friends check in.
On Twitter, #PorteOuverte is being used as well, to help those in need find shelter and safety.
