U.S. President Barack Obama yesterday awarded 21 Presidential Medals of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award that recognizes exceptional meritorious service, to a host of very famous people.
Michael Jordan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Bill Gates, Canadian-born architect Frank Gehry, Diana Ross, and Ellen DeGeneres were among the honourees.
It was a moving ceremony, one which saw Obama choke up when awarding Ellen for her courage in coming out “on the most public of stages almost 20 years ago.”
Ellen was obviously touched by the president’s gesture, but also kept her entertainer hat on.
Never one to sit out a trend, she pulled off an impressive mannequin challenge with some of the star-studded cast in the White House:

Since it was posted, the Ellen mannequin challenge video has racked up over 17,000 likes and 4,000 retweets on Twitter.
Awesome, though next time, maybe she could use something other than a Nokia brick phone to record the video.
