Celeb Juice: Week of May 22, 2012

At Notable, you’ve heard us speak of the four pillars of a well-balanced, 360-degree lifestyle – Professional Life, Social Life, Charity Life and Living Life. We always have an ear to the entertainment industry and each Tuesday we bring you the latest weekly snapshots on some of your favourite celebrities as their lives fit into our Notable categories.

Professional
Across the pond, the Cannes Film Festival is in full swing. Canadian director David Cronenberg and his son Brandon were in France for the occasion, becoming the first father-son duo to premiere films during the same year at the coveted festival, where yesterday they discussed movie-making to an audience of festival attendees. Brad Pitt hit the red carpet earlier today (Killing them Softly) sans Angelina, who was absent preparing for a role of her own. Stars expected to make their way over for this second week of the festival include Nicole Kidman (Hemingway & Gellhorn and The Paperboy), young Hollywood power couple Kristen Stewart (On the Road) and Robert Pattinson (Cosmopolis), Matthew McConaughey (Mud and The Paperboy), Zac Efron (The Paperboy) and pregnant Reese Witherspoon (Mud).

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards were held Sunday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas, and included performances from Katy Perry, Usher, The Wanted, Chris Brown, Linkin Park, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. In addition was a well-received rendition of “I Will Always Love You” by Jordin Sparks during a touching tribute to Whitney Houston. Award winners included Justin Bieber (Social Artist of the Year), Katy Perry (Spotlight Award), Wiz Khalifa (New Artist Award), LMFAO (Duo/Group) and Chris Brown (R&B Artist). Taylor Swift was honored for her record-breaking career and philanthropic work with the Woman of the Year award. Finally, it has just been announced that Coldplay will headline the closing ceremonies of the London Paralympic Summer Games.

Social
Speaking of the Cannes Film Festival, it has become just as synonymous with parties and yachts as the films. Though they are expected to continue into the week, Eva Longoria and Denise Rich hosted a cocktail party on The Lady Joy Yacht on Friday, where guests included P Diddy, Michelle Rodriguez and Alec Baldwin. A recurring example of how not to party, a sweaty and haggard looking Tara Reid (in town to promote her latest American Pie film) was seem stumbling out of the yacht barefoot in the early hours of the morning. Finally appearing happily and healthily in love, Jennifer Aniston and her boyfriend, Justin Theroux, left a restaurant in Studio City over the weekend where her equally easy-on-the-eyes BF revealed himself to be a gentleman by opening the car door for her before letting himself in.

Charity
Sean Penn and Paul Haggis raised $2 million for Haiti while at the Cannes Film Festival on through their Carnival in Cannes Gala for Haitian Relief on Friday night. In the wake on Sean Penn hastily accusing the media of losing interest in Haiti, the event was designed to raise funds for Penn’s J/P Haitian Relief Organization, Haggis’ Artists for Peace and Justice, and model Petra Nemcova’s Happy Hearts Fund. With $5000 tickets for the event and a very Hollywood auction – and prizes that included a three-day trip to Haiti with Sean Penn, a Bono guitar, a lunch date with a Victoria’s Secret Angel and VIP access to the Victoria’s Secret 2012 fashion show – we are sure the event was a success (final figures are still being tallied). Also taking advantage of the festival as an opportunity for charity work, Karl Lagerfeld and Harvey Weinstein will auction off a chance to star in a short film to be produced by Weinstein and directed by Lagerfield at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes.

Living
Glee star Lea Michele stopped by the Late Show yesterday looking more and more like the somewhat unexpected bombshell she has become in a busty, figure-hugging Amen dress, nude Christian Louboutin pumps and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. In other news, over the weekend Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg crushed the dreams of gold-digging 20-somethings everywhere when he married his girlfriend, Priscilla Chan. In baby news, former YP heartthrob Scott Wolfe (come on, you care a little) took to Twitter on Friday to announce that he and his wife, Real World: New Orleans alum Kelley, are expecting a second baby. Meanwhile, just after the birth of his new baby daughter, Mabel, Bruce Willis recently told Esquire that he has grown to appreciate the simple things in life, claiming “I’m happy. Actively happy. I eschew turmoil. Now I’m fun, just with fewer people. I’m in love with my wife and my kids. I require very little. Friends come over, the kids come over when they can. We eat dinner. And I’m happy to play along with their momentum. I save it for them. This is it. I’m happy. This is how I’m doing. That’s my fun.”
