A Diver Might Have Found a Cold War-Era Nuclear Bomb off the Coast of B.C.

Here’s a pretty major diving discovery.

Commercial diver Sean Smyrichinsky stumbled upon what the Canadian Department of National Defence believes could be a Cold War-era nuclear bomb that’s been lost since 1950.

The bomb vanished after an American B-36 Bomber crashed near Prince Rupert, B.C. While the plane crashed on land, surviving crew members said they ditched the bomb while they were still over water.

You can find out all about it in this 45-minute documentary if you feel so inclined:

The good news is that the bomb, which is larger than a king size bed, is believed to contain no active nuclear materials.

“I found something really weird, I think it’s a UFO,” said Smyrichinsky about his find.

The bomb’s whereabouts have been a puzzle for more than half a century and its story has baffled historians around the world.

“It was a mystery to everyone,” said Dirk Septer, an aviation historian from British Columbia. “It was the height of the Cold War and they were just paranoid that the Russians would get a hold of it.”
