5 Reasons You Should Be Drinking Riesling

Whenever something worthy comes across our desk at Notable.ca (yes, we actually use desks – we’re old school like that) we try to keep you in the know. And most recently, we discovered a bottle of Riesling from Deinhard that completely changed our opinion of how delicious white wine could be. If you’re sitting there asking yourself why a bottle of wine came across our desk, you obviously don’t have your head in the game (and you obviously don’t work at the right place). So allow us to give you a little run down on Riesling so that the next time you head to the LCBO you’ll know why picking up a bottle of Deinhard Green Label will be the best wine decision you make this year.

It’s Got Pedigree
500-years of it to be exact. So you know it’s been tried, tested, and found to be true. Ever since some guy in Germany’s Rhineland bought up the first known vines in the middle of the 15th century this little grape has been pleasing palates all around the world. You’ll note that Green Label is also German. Coincidence – we think not.

It’s The Best Date At The Dance
By which we mean it goes with everything better than anything. This floral number with hints of spice pairs perfectly with nearly any meal. From shellfish to spicy food, pouring yourself a glass of Deinhard will instantly upgrade any meal. Not sure what you’re having at the dinner you’re headed to? No problem, Green Label will match up with whatever’s on the menu.

It’s Not As Sweet As You Think
People have a tendency to see white wine and think: sugar. However, this is not the case with the Riesling’s Deinhard produces. Even if the Green Label’s medium sweetness does turn out to be just a little too much for your mouth to handle, you can simply turn to Deinhard’s Dry Riesling option instead. In it you’ll find a crisp, dry flavour waiting to give your tongue a nice playful bite (not literally of course – but almost).

It’s A Delicate Flower
Well, a delicate grape at least. So much so that it must be handled with special care during harvesting in order to protect it from any crushing or bruising. Any tannin leaked into the juice could spoil the Riesling’s balance. Why is this important? ‘Cause it means that a bottle of Riesling is always filled with the absolute highest quality grapes possible. And since we always think you deserve the best this works out just great.

It’s Low in Alcohol
Traditionally, Rieslings have some of the lowest alcohol content of any wine. Deinhard’s Green Label is no different, coming in at only 10.5%. That’s about 3/4 of most Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs, not to mention Pinot Noirs, Syrahs, and Merlots. Suddenly, having another glass doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.
