Bonterra Restaurant

There’s no denying it: Calgary diners love Italian food. With the pantheon of choices, deciding where to dine can be a daunting task. But if your standard answer when it comes to finding a choice restaurant is “wherever has the best patio,” you’ll likely do well heading over to Bonterra. Hidden behind a rather plain building on 8th Street, their secret garden patio is one of the city’s best.

On the other hand, if you’re hesistant to go to and Italian restaurant because you’re afraid of mispronouncing the name of a dish or ordering something that you won’t ultimately enjoy, you can be assured that Bonterra’s serving staff is more than willing to assist and provide the excellent service you need to have a memorable dining experience.

No Italian restaurant would be complete without an impressive wine list, and Bonterra restaurant’s varieties do not disappoint.

The Italian specialty calamari is superb at this Italian resto. Too often this favourite appetizer is cooked improperly, causing it to resemble rubber bands, but at this Calgary eatery, they are tender with a near-perfect texture. At the other end of the meal, another well-prepared Italian dish awaits: the tiramisu. This indescribably delicious treat is a sweet foil to the savoury dinner plates, and should be ordered whether or not you’re in need of another course.

Bonterra’s mains are also noteworthy. The Lasagna is made with beef, veal and pork which provides a rich blend of carnivorous flavours. For those less interested in meat, Pizza Con Funghi and Pizza Margherita are delightful vegetarian options, served on buttery and crisp crusts. Bonterra also offers gluten-free pasta, a surprising addition that many restaurants have yet to offer.
