You Should’ve Been a Vine Star; Here’s How Much Some of Them Are Worth

You’ve heard of Vine, right?

It’s essentially Instagram for very very very short videos. More elaborately, it’s a social media platform that allows people to post, follow, and watch videos limited to six seconds in length (well, unless you want to get super technical), with the most popular ones usually heavily edited before upload. Pretty simple.

And in 2015, what would a simple social media platform be without its own litter of legitimate web-celebrities?

Amongst awards for television series’, movies and comedians, the Teen Choice Awards now honours the year’s best “Viner”. Two nights ago, a twenty-year-old named Cameron Dallas won that award only a few days after being mobbed at an airport by such aggressive fans that his getaway car accidentally ran over one of their feet. Just as telling as the Vine-specific award however, is the other award he won as a result of his work in the vineyard; Male Choice Web Star.

That’s the whole web. Last year that award went home with Tyler Oakley who, according to his Wikipedia profile, is an “American YouTube, television, and podcast personality, humorist, author, and advocate.”

Cameron Dallas is a Viner.

But he’s a Viner with over 8 million followers and almost two billion aggregate views of his videos. And he’s not even the biggest.

Earlier this year we told you all about the monetary merits of being a YouTube celebrity, so to ensure that you remain adequately depressed, here is a reminder of how much you could be worth if you had just spent your late teens and early twenties getting really good at recording and editing six second videos of irrelevant nonsense.
