Toronto Writer Eavesdrops and Live Tweets a Hilariously Bad First Date

If you’re terribly self aware, on a first date, and like to complain about things as pretentious as the ‘body’ of coffee, you’d better hope Toronto writer Anne Thériault is no where near you.

‘Cause even though she’s written for the likes of The Washington Post and Vice, it’s her live tweeting of a bad first date that has social media ready to hand her over a Pulitzer.

After sitting near a couple who were clearly on a first date, and watching it become more and more awkward as the man continued to speak only about himself (in dramatic and ridiculous stereotypes) and not ask the woman any questions, she did what any self respecting modern writer would do – she tweeted it out.

What follows is the absolutely hilarious result of an unknown, self-proclaimed ‘James Franco look-alike’ and a poor, unfortunate woman at an undisclosed coffee shop somewhere in The Big Smoke.

Which makes me think, if more first dates were live tweeted, would they continue to be so bad? Perhaps Thériault has finally found a way to solve the trouble with modern dating – if you wouldn’t want it tweeted, don’t say it…
