Lonely Planet Names Canada the Top Country to Visit in 2017

2016 was a pretty great year for Canada.

Millennials love us. Americans want to live in us. We’re a great place to go corporate.

And in 2017, we’ll be the top country in the world to visit according to Lonely Planet.

The largest travel guide publisher in the world has named our fair land the top destination travellers can’t afford to miss next year. What they can do is literally afford to flock here in droves, thanks to our terrible dollar.

In addition to our weak loonie, Lonely Planet praised Canada for “dynamic cities that dominate global livability indices and a reputation for inclusiveness and impeccable politeness.” Sorry and thanks!

They also love our Prime Minister, who they credit for unleashing a “wave of positivity.” For some, anyway.

We also scored high for our “exciting fusion food (true that) and mysteriously underrated wine,” and it certainly helps that we’re celebrating our 150th birthday next year. Party on, eh?

Colombia, fresh off a historic peace deal, and Finland a.k.a. Canada Lite (joking, we’re too nice for jabs), round out the top three. The full top 10 below:

1. Canada
2. Colombia
3. Finland
4. Dominica
5. Nepal
6. Bermuda
7. Mongolia
8. Oman
9. Myanmar
10. Ethiopia

While travellers can certainly afford to visit, calling Canada home is another story.
