Airbnb Offers First Underwater Bedroom Experience…In a Shark Tank

It was only a matter of time: Airbnb’s first underwater bedroom is now available.

The company is getting more creative in its offerings; a few months back, Airbnb offered a game-filled stay at the Air Canada Centre in a bedroom designed for the occasion.

Now, next month, three people and their guests will get a free night’s stay inside the shark tank of Aquarium de Paris, where the only thing separating their quarters from 35 sharks is a 360-degree wall. The bedroom is in the centre of the tank, submerged in 10 metres of water.

The host for the night is Fred Buyle, a world record-breaking freediver, underwater photographer, and shark enthusiast, who will guide guests through the aquarium. Here, they’ll become more acquainted with their sharp-toothed roommates for the night, as they learn how sharks live, why they’re so important, and what makes them so misunderstood.

The stay also involves a meal inside the aquarium.

To win the stay – which takes place for one night between April 11-13 – prospective adventure-loving guests will need to write to Airbnb about themselves, and offer an original 50 to 550-word reason why they should be the ones to sleep beside the sharks. Entries are due by 11:50pm CET on April 3 (so you may want to get on that now).

To qualify, you must be over the age of 18, medically fit (your weight must not exceed 190kg), and able to climb easily in and out of the bedroom, according to the Airbnb listing.

You also must adhere to a unique set of rules, which include no selfies after dark (sharks are sensitive to light), and instructions to keep your hands and feet inside of the bedroom at all times.

The objective of the competition is to teach people more about sharks. While the winners will definitely get up close and personal with the misunderstood creatures, the one thing that can’t be guaranteed is a good night’s sleep.
