Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I navigate the murky waters of the entertainment world and try to give the general public topical stories that can delight and/or enrage.
Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I began work at CityTV because I got tired of showing up for work in sweatpants and sporting a beard in radio. The improvisational nature and sheer excitement of live TV served as the inspiration for my career shift.
What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of my job is watching the faces of co-workers who marvel at how hyper I can be at 4:45am – before coffee! But seriously, I’d have to say that starting every work day with the finest crew in television and then being privy to all the great feedback from loyal viewers is the best part of my job. The most challenging part of my job (especially given my news niche) is trying to report entertainment news with a sense of accuracy (words like ‘allegedly’ and ‘apparently’ have become my best friends.)
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Fetching coffee for Stephen Colbert.
What does success look like to you?
My cheeky answer: Michael Fassbender’s head (and accent) on Ryan Gosling’s body (from ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’) with the mad skills of P.T. Anderson (the ones displayed in ‘There Will Be Blood’.) My serious answer: I would have to say that success, to me, means simply doing something you love every day that is also challenging enough to keep you on your toes; it’s never regretting past decisions but learning from them.
What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
Interviewing my biggest crush Dame Helen Mirren via satellite, she referred to me as the ‘God of Thunder’ – Oh yeah!
Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Go with the flow and don’t become stagnant. If you want to make a change, do it!
Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
Any group that helps preserve our ocean inhabitants; they’ve had a rough ride. One charity in particular that I choose to support is the Oceanic Preservation Society.
What is Notable to you?
Notable, to me, is a savvy way to profile tomorrow’s up-and-comers.
Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
