Priya Chopra is the Founder and President of 1milk2sugars PR and describes her job as fast-paced, fun and fabulous. She says going against the tide and challenging the status quo is notable, which she proves on a daily basis at her agency…
Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
Fast-paced. Fun. Pretty darn fabulous. My agency, 1milk2sugars PR, works with some of the top lifestyle brands in the world, from fashion, to beauty, to décor. We represent our clients to the nation’s top press. We work hard to get our clients in the limelight; to raise their brand awareness, to support their marketing efforts, and to increase their bottom line.
Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I have always been an entrepreneur since a young age. From selling lemonade as a kid with my brother, to opening a jewellery kiosk while in university, being an entrepreneur always defined my personality best: motivated by challenge and driven by goals. My credo: the sky is the limit!
What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
They say if you love your job, you never work a day in your life…I truly love being my own boss. From moulding and creating something from scratch and to watch it grow is the greatest personal reward. The highlights of my days are coaching a team, building creative strategies, watching projects come to fruition and to see RESULTS. The most challenging part is juggling motherhood with my job demands; I am a mama of an 18 month old, and I have another one on the way!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
We are in the midst of expanding our offices to Toronto. I hope in 5 years we will have operations in the major city centres of Canada as well as presence in the USA. I would not want to forecast more than that…life is what happens when you are busy planning it.
What does success look like to you?
What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
Expansion: moving to a new, larger, loft space, hiring new staff, expanding the team. Growth is motivating!
Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
If opportunity does not knock, build your own door – this was the same quote I wrote under my high school grad photo and it is the motto I continue to follow today…
Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I support the S.O.S Children’s Villages for orphaned kids. Since becoming a mom, nothing is closer to my heart than the happiness of our children.
What to you is notable?
Going against the tide and challenging the status quo. Also, being your own person, completely comfortable in your own skin.
Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
iPhone all the way!
