Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
Is it a tall building? Let me see…my job is incredibly diverse and constantly evolving; it currently includes writing promotional and corporate copy, developing exciting campaigns, trend-spotting, overseeing social media outreach, and managing an amazingly talented team of creative professionals.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
Soon after moving to Toronto in 2008, I fell in love with the Drake. I didn’t realize at first glance that the hotel had its very own in-house marketing department and I knew, from my first live show, bite of food and tour of the space, that I needed to be part of this magical place and help develop, promote and enhance the brand.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of my job is working alongside smart, creative and often quirky people. There are always so many good ideas floating around that the most challenging part of my job is deciding which campaign or project to execute next.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years I hope to continue traveling, learning, growing (as a person, not physically), and I would really like to own a dog. Ultimately, I hope to be five years wiser.

What does success look like to you?
Supporting a brand or a cause that you believe in and making a difference in the world. I think success really hits once you’re at a place where you can share what you’ve learned with others and give back to whichever community is important to you.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
Can I please add “so far” to that question? I would have to say moving into a senior position at the Drake that involves managing the in-house marketing department and leading celebrated campaigns. In the world of marketing there are also a lot of big and small milestones along the way, like hitting 18,000 followers on Twitter or launching a new website (which we’re about to do in a few weeks!).

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Align yourself with a brand that you believe in, find a really great mentor, and don’t be afraid to blur the line between work and play – as long as you’re working for a company that matches your personal values.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I am a big fan of Sister Writes, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to giving a voice to marginalized women through writing. And, at the Drake I’m able to support a number of great causes like the Parkdale Community Food Bank, Alexander Muir and Grove Community Schools and more.

What to you is notable?
Good advice.
