YPDaily: Eryne Ordel

As the PR & Marketing Manager for Mavi Jeans Canada, 29-year-old Eryne Ordel has a broad role representing the brand for the country. She currently works with the wholesale sector as well as their two flag ship stores located in Vancouver, BC, and recently made the move to Toronto…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I handle the PR & Marketing for Mavi Canada; I manage all press, image, magazine spots and TV credits. On any given day I might be styling a photoshoot for a look book, designing our store windows (flagship stores located in Vancouver), sending samples out to various national and international publications, or grabbing a coffee with a blogger. One day to the next is never the same.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
I have been in the fashion industry in one way or another my entire life. My mom has a wholesale agency, so it only felt right to mix my love of PR & marketing and my love of fashion. I spent a few years working for a major Fortune 500 consumer electronics company which set me up for the role I am in now.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
I just love people, what they are saying, doing, wearing, where they live. I want to know everything. I spend time checking out trends on various blogs, and connecting with people who I think are perfect for our brand. Putting together this puzzle is what really makes me tick. There are always daily challenges, which I think of as opportunities to explore. There is always a solution for every obstacle.

I’d have to say if there was a challenge to overcome,  it would be putting down the iPhone. However, I think that most people today have this challenge.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Doing something I love, and changing the world…a girl can dream!

What does success look like to you?
Loving what you do, and working in a position that doesn’t feel like a job. Currently I am lucky enough to be in that position; if emails come in in the middle of the night I am excited rather than annoyed!

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
I dressed Carly Rae Jepsen right before she blew up huge with Justin Bieber. We have a great relationship with her and her bandmates and I just love having them as part of the Mavi family.

I’ve also just recently relocated to Toronto from Vancouver. Being given this opportunity from Mavi has been huge for me, and I can’t wait to do great things here!

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Always remember names of people and something specific about them. Also know that your colleagues (whether internal or external) are your biggest critics and your biggest fans; they can be a great source for internal growth.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I sit on the committee for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Jeans Day. It’s a labour of love, having grown up in Vancouver. A lot of sprained ankles sent me there! It’s important that we have a place with the highest technology and best care to provide for the children of BC.

I also donate to various youth shelters when I can, it’s not well known how badly they need toiletries – something to keep in mind! *hint hint

What to you is notable?
Having the ability to always get the job done no matter the circumstances. Going that extra mile always will keep you feeling satisfied and demonstrate your accountability.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
I’m an iGirl. iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac.
